What is PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)?
PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a highly effective medication for reducing the risk of HIV transmission in individuals at increased risk. When taken consistently, PrEP can lower the risk of acquiring HIV through sexual contact by approximately 99% and through injection drug use by at least 74%. It is recommended for individuals who have an HIV-positive partner, engage in high risk sexual activity with multiple partners, have a recent history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or share injection drug equipment. A healthcare provider can assess your risk and determine if PrEP is right for you.
